A Prefeitura de Sorocaba, por meio da Secretaria do Meio Ambiente, Proteção e Bem-Estar Animal (Sema), realizou, na manhã desta quarta-feira (13), a roda de conversa “História de Sorocaba sob o olhar das plantas”, no Jardim Botânico “Irmãos Villas-Bôas”, com o historiador e membro da Academia Sorocabana de Letras, José Rubens Incao, e o engenheiro agrônomo da Sema, Clebson Aparecido Ribeiro.
A programação gratuita, que celebrou os 371 anos de Sorocaba (15 de agosto) e fez parte das atividades do Clube de Jardinagem do Jardim Botânico, contou a história da cidade a partir do ponto de vista das plantas. Juntos, eles conduziram os participantes para uma viagem no tempo, desde o período pré-colonial até os dias atuais, revelando como os vegetais influenciaram o crescimento e o desenvolvimento de Sorocaba.
José Rubens Incao e Clebson Aparecido Ribeiro destacaram o protagonismo das plantas na formação de Sorocaba, seja como fonte de alimento, matéria-prima, inspiração cultural ou elemento marcante da paisagem urbana. Das espécies nativas, como araticum, indaiá, cedro e imbuia, às cultivadas que impulsionaram ciclos econômicos, como o algodão e a laranja, os vegetais sempre estiveram presentes e foram decisivos para o desenvolvimento local. Hoje, continuam a exercer funções ecológicas essenciais, contribuindo para a qualidade de vida da população e preservação da biodiversidade.
Criado em 2023, o Clube de Jardinagem do Jardim Botânico de Sorocaba promove o aprendizado e a prática da jardinagem e educação ambiental. Os encontros são gratuitos e realizados nas manhãs das quartas-feiras, das 9h às 11h30, no Jardim Botânico, com programação que inclui formações teóricas e atividades práticas. A participação é voltada ao público com mais de 18 anos, sem a necessidade de inscrição prévia.
