Sorocaba conclui a 87ª edição dos Jogos Abertos do Interior “Horácio Baby Barioni” com um histórico pódio. Competição foi realizada entre os dias 10 e 21 de dezembro, em Ribeirão Preto (SP). A cidade ficou na terceira colocação e levou para a casa a medalha de bronze, com 157,5 pontos. Sorocaba ficou atrás apenas de São José dos Campos (359) e Santos (271).
A delegação sorocabana contou com cerca de 500 pessoas, entre atletas, comissão técnica, fisioterapia, equipe de limpeza e higienização, segurança, alimentação e técnicos da Secretaria de Esporte e Qualidade de Vida (Sequav), além de estrutura logística que contou com ônibus e caminhões para transportar integrantes e materiais em Ribeirão Preto, Brodowski, Sertãozinho e Serrana.
“Sorocaba faz história, após 70 anos de jejum, segundo alguns registros históricos, sem terminar a competição no pódio. Esse terceiro lugar nos traz muito orgulho pois mostra a grandeza da cidade e todo empenho dos atletas, recolocando Sorocaba em uma ótima colocação mediante tantas equipes”, comemora o secretário municipal de Esporte e Qualidade de Vida, Vitor Hugo Tavares.
O chefe da Delegação, Ítalo Rafael Penna, salienta a importância de toda organização na contribuição do resultado. “Foi um trabalho imenso que envolveu cuidado de alimentação, limpeza e acomodação dos atletas com alojamento digno para descanso, contribuindo para que eles pudessem ter um grande desempenho. Portanto parabenizamos a todos que fizeram parte dessa marca muito importante para nossa cidade”, disse.
O encerramento contou com a partida de futsal entre Sorocaba (Magnus) e São José dos Campos, na categoria masculina sub-20 com o placar final de 4×0 para a equipe sorocabana.
Promovido pela Secretaria de Esportes do Governo do Estado de São Paulo, o evento é considerado a maior competição poliesportiva da América Latina e deve reunir cerca de 8 mil atletas de todas as regiões do Estado de São Paulo.
As modalidades da competição com participação de Sorocaba foram: Atletismo, Badminton, Basquetebol, Biribol, Bocha, Boxe, Capoeira, Ciclismo, Damas, Futebol, Futsal, Ginástica Artística, Ginástica Rítmica, Handebol, Judô, Karatê, Kickboxing, Natação, Taekwondo, Tênis, Tênis de Mesa, Voleibol, Vôlei de Praia, Wrestling e Xadrez.
