Nino, a onça-parda (Puma concolor) macho do Parque Zoológico Municipal “Quinzinho de Barros”, foi encaminhado, na última sexta-feira (20), ao Cempas (Centro de Medicina e Pesquisa em Animais Selvagens), da Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia – Câmpus de Botucatu da Unesp (Universidade Estadual de São Paulo).
A instituição, que tem parceria com o Zoo de Sorocaba, é especializada em resgate, tratamento, reabilitação e soltura de animais silvestres e exóticos.
Nino chegou ao Parque Zoológico Municipal “Quinzinho de Barros” em 2011 e, em 2025, já bastante idoso, com idade estimada de 14 anos, foi diagnosticado com artrose e insuficiência renal crônica — duas enfermidades degenerativas que não têm cura, apenas tratamento sintomático com foco no bem-estar animal.
Desde então, Nino estava sendo acompanhado com todo o cuidado e dedicação da equipe do “Quinzinho de Barros”, recebendo tratamento diário para essas afecções, com intuito de manter sua qualidade de vida. No Cempas, ele passará por exames de alta complexidade e dará continuidade ao tratamento.
Toda a operação de manejo e transporte foi acompanhada de perto pela equipe técnica do Parque Zoológico Municipal “Quinzinho de Barros”, garantindo sua segurança e seu bem-estar.
A onça-parda, também conhecida como suçuarana, habita desde regiões de floresta até formações de savanas, do Canadá à Cordilheira dos Andes. No Brasil, a espécie é encontrada em todos os biomas, sendo o segundo maior felino do País. Na natureza, a expectativa de vida da espécie é de 8 a 13 anos.
Administrado pela Prefeitura de Sorocaba, por meio da Secretaria do Meio Ambiente, Proteção e Bem-Estar Animal (Sema), o Zoo é considerado um dos mais completos da América Latina. Além do bem-estar animal, o parque desempenha um importante trabalho de conservação, educação ambiental, pesquisa e lazer, que são as cinco funções de um zoológico moderno.
O “Quinzinho de Barros” está localizado na Rua Theodoro Kaisel, 883, na Vila Hortência, e é aberto de terça a domingos, das 9h às 17h, sendo que a bilheteria funciona até as 16h.
